Hillsdale Tennis No. 4 doubles team places second at SMITL meet

HILLSDALE – On Monday, local prep sports tennis and golf athletes helped their teams put on an impressive showing at their conference events. The Hillsdale girls tennis team traveled to the SMITL tournament at Brooklyn Columbia Central, where the three of the top four seeded teams were each separated by one point.

The Hornets ultimately finished fourth overall, just two points behind the second-place team. On an individual level it was a successful event for several athletes. Abigail Nolan, ranked No. 1 in singles, placed third to lead the Hillsdale singles competitors. No. No. 2 singles player Annzley Francis, No. 3 singles Kailyn Frosch and No. 4 singles Aleighna Zubryckyj each placed fourth.

Leading all Hillsdale competitors in singles and doubles was the No. 4 doubles team of Olivia Kuenzer and Emily Butterbaugh, who placed second in their flight. Two other teams placed third, including the No. 1 doubles team of Victoria Sheffer and Sabina Hernandez-Lobato and the No. 3 team of Cassidi Mapps and Samara Williams. The No. 2 doubles team of Quinn Ortiz and Holly Lanius placed fourth.

Hillsdale Academy Golf earns third SCAA jamboree victory

Hillsdale Academy boys golf continues to roll through SCAA play with their third straight SCAA jamboree win in Battle Creek.

The Colts took on their SCAA rivals at the Riverside Golf Course. Five golfers ranked in the individual top 10. As a team, Hillsdale Academy’s final score of 171 was enough to hold off Jackson Christian’s 185 for second place. Hillsdale Will Carleton Academy placed fourth with a final score of 191.

Senior Rykert Frisinger led the Academy with a 41, tied for first with Jackson Christian’s Jonathan Locke. Senior Ridley Fast and junior Kahle Welden reached third place with a 42. Freshman Vincent Reagle both scored a 46 to finish in ninth place.

Will Carleton Academy junior Will Thielen placed fifth with a score of 44, tied with Mendon’s Matthew Bakeman. Cougar junior Tyler Slade placed seventh with a 45, tied with Kayden Laclair of Colon.

Hillsdale Academy will host the John Matthew Krutsch Memorial Golf Tournament on Friday, May 10 at Medalist Golf Club in Marshall, Michigan. The tournament honors the memory of Matthew Krutsch, a graduate of Hillsdale Academy and an integral member of the golf team.
