It’s the most exciting time of year for armchair fashion critics everywhere.

Tonight is the 2024 Met Gala, an occasion that calls on Hollywood’s biggest celebrities to dish out their most creative red carpet outfits — all ready for meme-ing by avid Met Gala viewers on Twitter (er, I mean, X).

With this year’s ambiguous dress code, ‘The Garden of Time’, visitors and fans alike are sure to have plenty to say about the outfits that adorn the famous steps of New York’s Metropolitan Museum of Art.

Inspired by JG Ballard’s 1962 short story of the same name, ‘The Garden of Time’ explores the intrinsic connection between time and natural beauty. It also complements the Costume Institute’s spring exhibition, “Sleeping Beauties: Reawakening Fashion,” which will feature approximately “250 objects spanning four centuries” from the Institute’s extensive collection, all “visually united by iconography related to nature , which will serve as a metaphor for the fragility and transience of fashion,” according to a press release. The exhibition will also showcase a number of modern technologies, “from advanced tools, artificial intelligence and computer-generated imagery to traditional formats of X-rays, video animation, light projection and soundscapes.”

In other words, flowers for spring, anyone?
