Rapper wears a custom black Windowsen dress

Cardi B rolled deep into the Met Gala on Monday night. The Grammy Award-winning rapper arrived with a huge entourage, including her longtime stylist Kollin Carter, and at least nine men who helped carry her black dress and straighten the tulle train for photographers. Per WWDCardi collaborated with Chinese designer Windowsen on a custom dress that was two months in the making and took over the entire carpet landing upon arrival, creating a breathtaking scene.

This year’s dress code, “The Garden of Time,” is inspired by JG Ballard’s 1962 short story of the same name, which ties in with the Metropolitan Museum of Art Costume Institute’s latest exhibition, Sleeping Beauties: Reawakening Fashion, opening on the public on Friday, May 10. Curated by Andrew Bolton, the show highlights fragile pieces from the institute’s archives, all viewed through a lens of nature. The exhibition’s coffee table book will be released on June 18.

According to information received by The Hollywood Reporter, Cardi B completed her look with i-ENVY’s latest launch, Airy Mink lashes, in the ethereal style. Her makeup artist also used the Vaseline Radiant X Replenishing hydrating body oil.

The Grammy Award-winning rapper and Carter recently appeared on the cover of The Hollywood Reporter’s Top Stylists issue – has been in prep mode for months, as she’s emerged as one to watch on fashion’s biggest night thanks to high-profile performances dating back to 2018.

“We’re always thinking ahead,” Cardi said THR in late March during a brief interview at Sunset Tower, the site of a party for Hollywood’s top image makers. “I feel like the Met Gala is almost like going to the Grammys. It’s very nerve-wracking, and even though we make it look so easy, we’re actually so nervous.”

Despite those nerves, Cardi explained that they approach the event with the same strategy every year. “We always try to make sure that everything goes well, that everything is iconic. We want everything to be iconic. I know sometimes people say, ‘Oh, it’s not about who’s there and who’s not,’ but it’s like, no, you have to remember us forever.
