Dick Rutan, whose flight around the world made history, dies at the age of 85

In December 1986, Dick Rutan and co-pilot Jeana Yeager lived in a cabin the size of a telephone booth for nine days while flying non-stop around the world in an experimental aircraft.

Their plane, the Voyager, was so fuel-heavy that its wingtips dragged on the runway when it took off from Edwards Air Force Base, California. When it came back, it was so light that it barely kicked up any dust.
