To vote! Victorville Chevrolet High School Athlete of the Week

Fifteen athletes from across the High Desert are in the running to win the Victorville Chevrolet High School Athlete of the Week.

Daily Press readers can vote for their favorite high school students on the newspaper’s website.

The polls close on Wednesday evening.

Here are the picks for the week, based on performances from April 29 to May 4.

Area overview: Silverado defeats Indio to reach the second round of CIF-SS Div. 7 Baseball Playoffs

  • Austin Allan, Oak Hills Baseball – Austin Allan drove in six runs to lead the Bulldogs to an 18-1 victory over Barstow in the first round of the CIF-SS Division 4 playoffs. Austin ended a triple shy of the cycle by going 3 for 4 with a three-run home run, six RBIs and two runs.
  • Brady Fonville, Apple Valley Golf — Brady led all shooters over two days at the Mojave River League Finals at Apple Valley Golf Course. Brady shot a score of 66 on the first day and went on to finish with a two-day total of 134. Over the two days, Fonville made only one hole bogey.
  • Danaka Pelayes, Academy for Careers and Exploration Softball – Danaka led the offensive charge for the Eagles in the first round of the CIF-SS Division 7 playoffs by going 5 for 5 with two RBIs, four runs and two stolen bases in a 23-2 win over Nuview Bridge.
  • Daylin Hoenisch, Oak Hills softball – Daylin had three hits as the Bulldogs defeated Monrovia 13-3 in the first round of the CIF-SS Division 4 playoffs. Daylin finished the day going 3 for 4 with an RBI and three runs.
  • Elijah Lovett, Athletics Academy for Academic Excellence — Elijah led all boys runners in the 800 race at the CIF-SS Division 4 Prelims with a score of 1:58.16. Elijah also qualified in the 1,600 run by finishing third overall, and first in his heat, with a time of 4:25.57.
  • Jace Weiss, Silverado Baseball – Jace didn’t allow a hit through six innings as the Hawks defeated Indio 14-2 in the first round of the CIF-SS Division 7 playoffs. Jace struck out eight batters. Jace also had a big day at the plate going 2-for-3 with a triple, an RBI and three runs.
  • Jazmine Gonzalez, Granite Hills softball – Jazmine led the charge by going 3 for 3 with four RBIs and a run as the Cougars defeated Flintridge Prep 11-1 in the first round of the CIF-SS Division 6 playoffs.
  • Isaac Tovar, Oak Hills Tennis — Isaac did not drop a set in singles as the Bulldogs won two matches in the CIF-SS Division 6 playoffs. Isaac won by scores of 6-1, 6-0, 6-0 in a 16-2 win on Adelanto in the first round. In a 15-3 win over Colton in the second round, Isaac also won by scores of 6-1, 6-1, 6-0.

  • Mady Bradshaw, Serrano stunt — Mady scored 50 points against Arlington and 24 against Patriot, and competed in all 18 routines for the Diamondbacks’ stunt team. Mady finished the season by scoring 39 points against Elsinore.
  • Nate Carlson, Academy of Careers and Exploration Golf — Nate captured the singles title at the Cross Valley League Finals after finishing with a two-day total of 133 strokes at Apple Valley Golf Course. Nate shot a 66 on the first day of the finals, and then a 67 on the second day.
  • Peyton Gaytan, Apple Valley softball — Peyton played a big role in the Sun Devils defeating Kaiser 14-11 in the wild-card round of the CIF-SS Division 5 playoffs. Peyton boosted the offense with two home runs and finished 4 for 5 with six RBIs, four runs and a stolen base.
  • Sam Minghelli, Excelsior softball — Sam boosted the offense in the first round of the CIF-SS Division 8 playoffs by going 4 for 4 with four RBIs, two runs and a stolen base as Excelsior defeated Santa Ana 15-3.
  • Savannah Vanderpool, Sultana softball — Savannah struck out six batters and allowed just three hits in the first round of the CIF-SS Division 4 playoffs. Savannah also had a pair of hits at the plate in the 7-2 win over Wilson.
  • Tommy Fernandez, Silverado swimming — Tommy qualified for the CIF-SS Division 4 finals and had a strong showing. He took seventh place after scoring 5:07.22 in the 500-meter freestyle. In the 200-meter individual medley, Tommy took 11th place with a time of 2:08.74. Tommy also competed in the 400 meter freestyle relay and the team recorded a time of 3:40, which was good for 15th place.
  • Zachary Roberts, Academy of Baseball Careers and Exploration — Zachary struck out nine batters and allowed just two hits to lead the Eagles to the second round of the Division 8 playoffs in a 9-0 win over Cate. Zachary also led the charge by going 3 for 3 with three RBIs and two runs.

Nominations must be received for consideration no later than Sunday morning after that week’s games. Anyone can nominate an Athlete of the Week for any varsity sport.
