Tarleton State’s Kelci Hill has been named to the 2024 WAC First Team

STEPHENVILLE, Texas – Tarleton Softball senior outfielder Kelci Hill earned the program’s second-ever All-WAC First Team selection following her outstanding efforts in the 2024 regular season, the league office announced Monday afternoon.

“Kelci has been steady all year,” said head coach Mark Cumpian. “She made it a goal that she wanted to score really high for the average and that’s exactly what she did. I can’t tell you how proud I am of her because she truly earned this All-WAC First Team selection. I am excited to see her compete in the conference tournament.”

Hill leads the Texans in nearly every offensive statistical category. She tops the Texans hitting .449 and hitting .674 with a total of 126 bases, 84 hits, 45 runs scored, 26 doubles and five triples. She has broken a pair of single-season program records in doubles, hitting by Georgia Capell and Meghann Wrinkle, both from the 2018 season. She has also posted the second-highest single-season batting average and ranks eighth in total bases and in tenth placee in on-base percentage (.477).

The senior has also established himself as one of the best hitters in the conference, ranking in the top five in the league in eight different categories. She leads the league in doubles and total bases and is tied with the best in triples. She ranks second in batting average and total hits and is third in runs scored. Finally, she is fourth in slugging percentage and fifth in on-base percentage.

Despite being officially ineligible for the NCAA statistical category leaders due to the reclassification process, Tarleton players are among the best hitters in the country. She is tied for the most doubles in the country this season and is one hit behind GCU’s Ashley Trierweiler, who ranks second in the NCAA in total hits. She has the ninth-best batting average in the country and is tied for 19the in total bases.

Last season, Hill earned All-WAC second team honors with fellow teammate, Katy Schaefer. Hill joins Georgia Cappell (2022) as the only Texans to earn first-team honors. Hill, Cappell and Schaefer are the only three Texans to earn a pair of All-WAC honors, with Hill being the only Texan to earn first- and second-team selections in consecutive years.

Hill and the Texans head to Seattle as the seventh seed in the 2024 WAC Softball Conference Tournament, hosted by Seattle U, which opens Wednesday at Logan Field. Tarleton State’s first-round matchup is a win or go-home against in-state WAC foe and sixth-seeded UT Arlington. The game is scheduled for a first CT throw at noon and will be broadcast live on ESPN+.
