UPCOMING EVENTS: May 8-14, 2024 – Park Rapids Enterprise

The Laporte American Legion, Legion Auxiliary and In-Country Veteran Group will hold a flag retirement ceremony at 10 a.m. at the Veterans Monument in downtown Laporte. Rain date is Thursday, May 9.

Visit Minnesota’s Veterans Memorials with photographer Jay Grammond at 10:30 a.m. at the event space in Park Rapids, courtesy of the Park Rapids Area Library. Created by caring communities, these monuments tell the stories of our nation’s veterans and their courageous sacrifices. This visual tour might inspire you to take a road trip yourself this summer. A free family enrichment class on “Start with Rosemaling” will be held from 5:30 PM to 7:30 PM at the Mt. Zion Church in Bemidji. This Scandinavian folk art form uses C- and S-shaped brushstrokes with scrolling, flowing lines and floral motifs. Instructor Lee Sanders focuses on the Telemark style. Children aged 12 and over must be accompanied by an adult family member. Art supplies are provided; bring a painting shirt. Second Saturday STEM builds with Keva Planks at 11 a.m. at the Park Rapids Area Library. Keva planks are designed to be exactly the same size, allowing participants to build extremely stable structures. All ages are welcome. Anyone aged 8 or younger must be accompanied.

Join printmaker Sonja Larsen and learn how to create fine prints from nature from 1:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m. Larsen Publishers will begin by giving a tour of its current exhibit, “Creating Art from Nature,” in Watermark’s Lakeview Gallery, followed by a demo of creating nature prints from local plants. There is no charge to participate and all ages are welcome.

The Park Rapids Community Band performs a spring concert at 3 p.m. in the Park Rapids Area High School auditorium, directed by Adam Tervola-Hultberg. Area musicians will perform a suite of old American dances, including highlights from ‘Les Miserables’, ‘Alleluia!’ and ‘Laudamus Te’, ‘The Klaxon’, ‘Hymn to the Fallen’, ‘Goin’ Home’, ‘Overture in C’, marches and patriotic numbers. There is no entrance fee.

A three-day blood drive will begin from 12:30 p.m. to 6 p.m at St. Peter the Apostle Catholic Church in Park Rapids. The Menahga School Concert Choir will perform at 7 p.m

The Century Middle School band will perform a concert at 7 p.m. in the Century cafetorium.

Menahga Elementary School is having an athletics day for groups 3-5.

Join local leaders and experts for a coffee chat from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m. at Northwoods Bank in Park Rapids. The topic is ‘Mental well-being’. There will be a short presentation followed by questions and discussions, co-hosted by Hubbard in Prevention, CHI St. Joseph’s Health Community Health, Stellher Human Services, Family Safety Network, Kinship of Park Rapids and Park Rapids Area Schools.
