Steam PC and Steam Deck Beta released to fix Proton 9 download issues

With Valve recently releasing Proton 9, as the latest major update to the Windows Compatibility Layer for Linux/Steam Deck, there were some download issues that should be resolved by now.

The fixes will come in a Steam Client Beta available for Desktop and Steam Deck. Although curiously noted that it is a beta, my Steam Deck OLED gave me the update on the stable channel. Either way, it should be rolling out to everyone soon.

This has all changed (it’s the same on desktop and Steam Deck):

  • Fixed desktop notifications no longer showing after editing notes for a game
  • Fixed an issue where the download notification for newly downloaded DLC would not display the correct name.

  • Fixed issues downloading Proton 9.

Steam input

  • Fix regression for “Custom Dead Zones” not being applied correctly.
  • UI: Joystick Mouse Deadzone controls now use the global Deadzone editor.
  • Added “Invert command binding” for FlickStick’s outer ring command.
  • An option has been added to allow the FlickStick to trigger a Flick Turn if the stick is thrown when the action set/action layer/mode shift is activated.
  • Reset camera to horizon/Rotate camera to face direction/Rotate camera 360: These actions still work even if Flick Stick or Gyro to Mouse are removed from your settings. However, dots per 360 must be calibrated with these two modes first.

Note: This beta has been re-released to fix a regression when opening the on-screen keyboard on the desktop.
