Stephens makes bold claim of Stellies

One of Stellenbosch’s unsung heroes this season, goalkeeper Sage Stephens, agrees he had one of the best views in domestic football watching the club’s deadly four in action.

Stellenbosch will host DStv champions Mamelodi Sundowns next Sunday, with a place in the Nedbank Cup final on the line.

Three Stellenbosch players – Devin Titus, Anicet Oura and Andre De Jong – are tied for the top scorers in this competition so far, with three goals each, while Iqraam Rayners runs away on the assists leaderboard with five.

On this website, Stephens was asked about the exploits of the front four, and what it was like to watch their action from the goalkeeper’s position.

“I have 100% the best vision,” Stephens replied iDiski times.

“I think we have the most lethal top four, with Ikkie, Oura, Andre and Devon. So for me it is a phenomenal view.

“I mean, the guys just play with so much confidence, so much belief in each other, the confidence that they show. And to answer your question about the 25 games:

“The coach said to us the other day: if you had started the season and said we would have done what we have done now, no one would have believed it.

“So I think what we have achieved is really phenomenal and special. I can’t put anything on it, all I can say is that we work hard, we just stay humble, and we respect our work. Ultimately that’s all I can say about that.
