Kunal Kamra recaps the COVID-19 migrant worker crisis in Episode 1 of the new series ‘Report Card’

Comedian Kunal Kamra has just released the first video in his new series Report this morning. In the video, titled Migrant worker crisis, the comedian gives a brief summary of the devastating consequences of the lockdown imposed during the first wave of COVID-19 in the country. Kamra alleges that the government has made a number of false claims, including denials that workers were starving and statements that workers were well supplied during that period. He also informs viewers about the formation of the volunteer group Stranded Workers Action Network and analyzes their reports on the hardships faced by workers, the government and the judiciary in response to the crisis, and the inconsistencies in the data published by the government.

Kamra also sheds light on the Public Interest Litigation (PIL) filed by author and columnist Harsh Mander in the Supreme Court of India to ensure that the migrant workers received their wages within a week. This PIL was dropped and the government claimed that it was doing everything possible to provide relief. “Modiji, aapki sarkaar bol rahi hai ki mazdooron ki families ki daily needs ka khayal rakha yes raha hai” says Kamra. “Toh mazdoor nikle hi kyun apne gaon se?”

Kamra also asks the Prime Minister and his Cabinet of Ministers a number of questions about the casualties and deaths that have occurred during the pandemic. He also addresses Solicitor General Tushar Mehta’s claims about people spreading “negativity, negativity and negativity” in such difficult times.

Kamra ends the video with a statement. “Agar yes migrant workers ka de haalkhne ke baad bhi aapke mann mein ek sawaal aa raha hai, ‘If not Modi, then who?‘Khali khursi chalegi.’
