Moyes blames Declan Rice’s departure for Western’s 5-0 defeat to Chelsea

West Ham manager David Moyes has claimed that Declan Rice’s departure is responsible for his team’s poor performance away from home.

Rice joined Arsenal last summer for a fee of £105 million.

The England midfielder has been an integral part of the Gunners’ title campaign this season.

He scored, assisted and was named man of the match on Saturday as his side defeated Bournemouth 3-0.

But 24 hours later, Moyes watched as his side were defeated 5-0 at Chelsea.

When asked why West Ham are struggling this season, Moyes said: “Declan Rice.

“If you have the best midfielder in the country who protects his attacks and limits probably 50 percent, you become a much better defensive team.

“We lacked protection for the back four, we weren’t good enough at defending and weren’t good enough at those things in many games.”
