Minister praises Team Nigeria Men’s 4×400, mixed relay qualification for Paris Games

The Minister of Sports Development, Senator John Owan Enoh, has conveyed his sincere congratulations to the athletes of Team Nigeria for their impressive performances so far at the World Relay Championships in the Bahamas where they qualified for the 4×400 Mixed Relays and the Men’s 4×400 relay at the 2024 Olympic Games in Paris.

Speaking on this remarkable achievement, Senator Enoh was full of praise for the Nigerian Ambassadors, saying: “I am immensely proud of our athletes of Team Nigeria for their exceptional performance at the World Relay Championships, which has already secured two qualifying tickets for the Olympic Games.

“Their dedication, determination and resilience have brought honor to our nation, and I congratulate them on this milestone.”

The Nigerian Men’s 4x400m quartet of Dubem Nwachukwu, Dubem Amene, Sikiru Adeyemi and Chidi Okezie showcased their prowess on the track and clocked a remarkable time of 3:01.70 to secure qualification for the Summer Olympics in Paris. The performance marks the fastest time by any Nigerian male 4x400m team since the bronze-winning team of James Godday, Musa Audu, Saul Weigopwa and Enefiok Udo-Obong at the 2004 Athens Olympics.

In the mixed 4x400m relay, Team Nigeria’s quartet of Samuel Ogazi, Ella Onojuvwevwo, Chidi Okezie and Esther Elo Joseph put in an impressive performance to finish second in their heat with a time of 3:13.79. This excellent performance secured a place at the Olympic Games for the second time in a row.

Senator Enoh, in a press statement signed by his SA on Media, Diana-Mary Nsan, stressed the importance of continued hard work and perseverance as Team Nigeria athletes strive for further Olympic qualification tickets for their remaining events. He expressed confidence in their abilities and encouraged them to strive for excellence as they represent Nigeria on the world stage.
