Russia adds Zelensky to list of ‘wanted’ criminals, Ukraine calls it act of ‘desperation’

Russia, May 5: As the war between Russia and Ukraine continues and Kremlin forces are relentless in their pursuit to attack Ukraine, the Russian Interior Ministry announced on Saturday that they have a new addition to Moscow’s list of ‘ wanted criminals’ – Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky.
Zelenskyy has been added to the ‘wanted’ list ‘under an article of the criminal code’, a claim the embattled president has denied, The New York Times report said.
Ukrainian officials, meanwhile, called the Russian move an act of “desperation,” calling it propaganda invented solely to “attract attention.”
Former Ukrainian President Petro Poroshenko and the commander of the Ukrainian Ground Forces, Oleksandr Pavliuk, have also been added to Moscow’s ‘wanted’ list, The Kyiv Independent report said.
In addition, Estonian Prime Minister Kaja Kallas and the head of Ukraine’s military intelligence Kyrylo Budanov are also on the list.
On the other hand, a statement from the Ukrainian Foreign Ministry said that the arrest warrant against Russian President Vladimir Putin by the International Criminal Court (ICC) is real and not as worthless as Russian announcements, adding that the arrest warrant is enforceable in 123 countries. “I would like to remind everyone that, contrary to the worthless Russian announcements, the order of the International Criminal Court (ICC) for the arrest of Russian dictator Vladimir Putin on charges of war crimes is real and enforceable in 123 countries,” the Ukrainian ministry said of Foreign Affairs.
Meanwhile, Zelenskyy reported in his video address at least five assassination attempts since Russia’s invasion of Ukraine in February 2022. (Agencies)
