Syracuse earned the No. 3 seed in the NCAA Tournament, securing the final bye in the first round after reaching the ACC Tournament title game. Northwestern and Boston College earned the top two seeds, respectively.

SU will face the winner of Stony Brook and Niagara in the second round. John Hopkins, Fairfield, Binghamton and No. 6 seed Yale round out the Orange quadrant of the series. On March 5, then-No. 15 Stony Brook traveled to the JMA Wireless Dome and defeated Syracuse 13-12 in overtime.

After losing to the Seawolves, the Dutch record dropped to 3-3. They then went on a nine-game winning streak that took them to their first outright ACC regular season title. Although SU lost 11-10 in overtime to Boston College in the final game of the regular season – its fifth straight loss to the Eagles.

Despite suffering a loss heading into the ACC Tournament, Syracuse cruised past Louisville before taking on then-No. 6 Virginia in the semifinals. Against UVA – which they defeated 15-14 on March 23 – the Dutch played their most complete game of the season and dominated with a 19-4 victory.

But in the title game against BC, history repeated itself. While SU held a 5-1 lead in the first quarter, the Eagles tied the game at 7-7 at halftime before shutting down the Orange in the second half en route to a 15-8 win.

In 2023, Syracuse reached the semifinals of the NCAA Tournament, but lost 8-7 to Boston College. It was SU’s ninth Final Four appearance and their first under head coach Kayla Treanor. This year, the Dutch look to make their fourth title game and take home their first National Championship.
