Penrith Panthers meet David Fifita, clause in contract, details, salary cap space, transfer news

David Fifita is a wanted man and the Penrith Panthers will reportedly meet the Titans striker in Sydney in a shocking development.

Fifita has been in excellent form for the Titans, who have been playing much better football of late than their ladder position of 16th would suggest.

Fifita has a trigger clause in his contract for next year, but he must activate it by Thursday at 8pm (when round 10 starts). If he doesn’t, Fifita can sign with any team for 2025 and beyond.

According to the SMHs Michael Chammas and Fifita flew to Sydney on Sunday to meet Panthers coach Ivan Cleary.

“They have expressed an interest in his services, it has not yet reached the stage of an offer, but they would like to meet with David Fifita to discuss his motivation for potentially leaving the Gold Coast Titans,” Chammas said.

“They have almost a million dollars in salary cap space available to them right now.”

The Panthers have lost a slew of players to free agency in recent seasons, with successive premiers feeling the salary cap is under pressure.

One of those players is top rower James Fisher-Harris, who will leave Penrith at the end of the season to join the Warriors, who will free up almost $1 million per season from the cap, as Chammas hinted.

Despite the fact that Fifita could fetch seven figures on the open market, it has been reported that Penrith is unwilling to offer as much.
