Why the Tigers will Cover the Spread/Profit

The Tigers have Flaherty on the mound and he is having his best game of the season. He threw 6.2 innings and struck out 14 against his old team in the St. Louis Cardinals. He will need to have a big game in this game if the Tigers want to get the win. One thing he does very well is make batters smell and limit walks. He is the 97th percentile in scent speed and 95th percentile in walking speed. He is having a great season in that regard and expects it to continue in this match. If Flaherty can continue this, he will be able to lead the Tigers to a victory.

The Guardians have a chase rate of 29.2 percent, which ranks seventh in the MLB. This means that Flaherty should be able to let the Guardians pursue this one. In addition, the Guardians don’t take walks. This will work in Flaherty’s favor. If Cleveland continues this trend and Flaherty can be at his best, the Tigers will win this game.

Why the Guardians will cover the spread/profits

The Guardians have Triston McKenzie on the mound and he is pitching well. He really needs to take fewer walks, but there is an opportunity for that in this game. The Tigers are in the bottom half of the MLB in walks, and they can come out happy at times. Still, McKenzie needs to attack the zone in this play. If he can do that, the Tigers will continue to struggle offensively and lose this game.

The Tigers rank in the bottom 10 of the MLB in batting average, OPS, wOBA, and they don’t hit with much power. Detroit’s struggles on offense are the reason they don’t have a better record this season. McKenzie should be able to have one of his better games in this one. If he does, the Guardians can open this series with a win.

Latest prediction and picks from Tigers-Guardians

This will be a good matchup between two teams that will compete to be at the top of the AL Central this season. For this game I’m going with the pitcher I’m most familiar with. That pitcher is Jack Flaherty. He is having a great season in terms of strikeouts and walks, but does give up runs at times. However, I don’t see that happening in this game. Expect Flaherty to bring his best start of the season into this match. I’ll take the Tigers moneyline.
