Wildcats complete Sweep of Cardinal with 7-2 win in final

TUCSON, Ariz. — The Arizona Wildcats (29-17, 17-7) picked up their 10th consecutive home conference victory on Sunday afternoon, defeating the Stanford Cardinal (20-24, 11-13) by a final score of 7-2 to complete the series sweep . .

Starting pitcher Cam Walty pitched a quality start, working seven innings and holding Stanford to just two runs while striking out three. The right-hander earned the win and improved to 7-1 on the season.

The Wildcats bullpen was out, with right-handers Casey Hintz (1.0 IP) and Anthony Susac (1.0 IP) combined for two scoreless, hitless innings while striking out.

Arizona entered the sixth inning trailing Stanford 2-1 before exploding to six runs and taking the lead. Right fielder Emilio Corona tied the game with an RBI single, while a two-run double by design hitter Andrew Cain and a three-run double by center fielder Brendan Summerhill respectively gave the Wildcats a lead and broke the game open.

After Sunday’s action, the Wildcats enter the final two weeks of conference play with a multiple-game lead atop the Pac-12 Conference standings.
