Aggies win in home finals

LAS CRUCES, NM – The Aggies beat the LA Tech Bulldogs 12-6 in the series finale for their third Conference USA Series win of the year. The Aggie offense stayed hot on senior day, recording 16 hits with four doubles and four home runs.

The scoring started early for the Aggies Keith Jones II opened the inning with a solo home run to right field, his 17th of the year. Nick Gore wanted to get in on the action, blasting a solo home run to center field, his 12th big swing of the season.

In the bottom of the fifth, freshman Steve Solorzano opened the inning with a double to left center. Edwin Martinez-Pagani came to the plate and singled up the middle to score Solorzano. Damone Hale then singled up the middle, passing a sacrifice bunt Romeo Ballesteros moved Martinez-Pagani and Hale into second and third place. Jones was then hit by the pitch, loading the bases.

With bases full Titus Dumitru hit a sacrifice fly to centerfield that scored Martinez-Pagani. With runners in first and second place, Logan Gallina hit his 11th home run of the season to give the Aggies seven runs.

In the top of the third inning, LA Tech scored its first run of the ballgame on a sacrifice fly. In the top of the fourth inning, LA Tech added two more runs on a two-run homer. The next inning, the Bulldogs hit another two-run homer to make the score 7-5 in favor of the Aggies.

In the bottom of the fifth, Hale singled up the middle to score Solorzano, who reached base with a single to give the Aggies eight runs. In the bottom of the sixth, The Aggies had runners on first and third base, leading Gallina to hit an RBI single that scored Jones. Preston Godfrey followed that RBI single with one of his own to score Dumitru.

Hale led off the bottom of the seventh with a double down the left field line. Ballesteros was the next man in and he managed to hit his first home run of the season, giving the Aggies 12 runs.

After a scoreless eighth, LA Tech scored their final run of the game in the ninth on an RBI single. Hayden Walker closed out the game for the Aggies, allowing just one hit and one run in 3.0 innings, earning his second win of the series.


  • Dumitru had two hits in the ballgame, earning his 17th multi-hit game of the season.
  • Gallina went 3-5 with four RBIs to earn his seventh multi-hit game and 10th multi-RBI game of the season.
  • Steve Solorzano had three hits in the ball game for his 10th multi-hit game of the season.
  • Ballesteros had two RBIs in today’s ballgame for his sixth multi-RBI game of the season.
  • Hale had three hits in the ball game for his eleventh multi-hit game of the season.
  • The Aggies hit .410 as a team in the ball game.
  • The Aggies went 7-14 with runners in scoring position.
