Things like this drive me crazy…

I’m talking about THIEVES.

They really are the best they can be!

And that’s why we think you’ll like this story on Reddit’s “Petty Revenge” page.

Look what happened!

“I (35f) and my SO (35m) live in a 102 year old house in a small town in a rural farming community on the west coast. This particular area has been hit hard by thefts by tweakers and other drug addicts.

That’s why we had cameras installed a few months ago, including a doorbell camera. We share a driveway with our neighbors and are good friends with all of them. It is a large family with many children that lives in a very large, old school building.

The mother is elderly (and very sweet) and almost all the children she has adopted or cared for are adults. 2 adult children still live there. One has only themselves and the other has a partner and four children. Her eldest is in primary school.

There was something strange…

A few days ago in the morning I found the gas tank door of my car open. This prompted me to make a mental note to look at my footage from the cameras later that afternoon when I got home.

I also found a large pocket knife on the ground next to the gas tank of our other vehicle that did not belong to us or our neighbors (I sent them a picture of it and asked about it).

That afternoon I checked my cameras and discovered that at 6:40 AM someone in a Chevy SUV had parked just at the end of the driveway on the other side of the fence.

They then walked up and down my driveway three times, walked up to our garage door and looked around inside (didn’t go inside) and then up to our porch looking for something.

The images show that he was carrying a piece of plastic tubing. Clearly he was after gas and had tried to siphon off both our vehicles and when he couldn’t get anything out (one was empty and the other wouldn’t open from the outside) he was looking for a can to steal .

We had an empty gas can where he didn’t see it, so he ended up walking away with nothing. HA!

Who was this man…?

So I downloaded the videos and sent them to my neighbors to see if they recognized him. They immediately texted me back and told me it was one of their brothers who is a drug addict and has robbed his property and also has a history of theft.

They encouraged me to contact the sheriff and file a report. I also posted several vague messages (no names or who I think it is) on some local community pages, with the videos asking for information.

I got a few clues, but the majority consensus pointed to the neighbor’s brother. I gave ALL of this information along with the videos and photos of the knife to the sheriff for the report.

The deputy who took my report said, “(the neighbor’s brother) is a thorn in the side of MANY people.” The way he said it and the feeling I got from the whole interaction was that they were watching him closely and had an ongoing case with him.

They also asked if I had posted online and I told him I had, was very vague and just asking for information. So that’s where I am at the moment with the legal aspects of it.

It was time for revenge…

My little revenge:

Since I still had that gas can that the thief didn’t see, I decided to use it. But I needed more supplies. I needed some gasoline, paper, Vaseline, fishing line, glitter, a sharpie, sugar and some tape.

I was going to put about a pint of gasoline in the can (for smell), then added a cup and a half of sugar, a bunch of glitter, and topped it off with water from the hose.

Then I taped a note (“Smile! You’re on camera!”) to the bottom of the can and secured it with the fishing line (so he couldn’t see the line and it would take him a few extra seconds to get it ) to our porch, directly below the doorbell camera, where it can be seen.

Finally, I put Vaseline on the bottom of the can, along with some more glitter.

Now that I have set the trap, I wait.”
