The Biden administration has halted a shipment of U.S. ammunition to Israel, according to a source familiar with the matter who did not reveal why the decision was made. The hold is not related to a possible Israeli operation in Rafah and will not affect other shipments in the future, the source said.

Asked about the interrupted transmission, a National Security Council spokesperson cited continued security assistance to Israel.

“The United States has provided billions of dollars in security assistance to Israel since the October 7 attacks, approved the largest-ever additional appropriation for emergency aid to Israel, led an unprecedented coalition to defend Israel from Iranian attacks, and will continue to do whatever is necessary. This is necessary to ensure that Israel can defend itself against the threats it faces,” the spokesperson said.

Axios first reported the paused ammunition shipment.
