Anthony Edwards gives Timberwolves a 1-0 lead over Nuggets

Anthony Edwards scored a new Minnesota Timberwolves playoff record 43 points and grabbed seven rebounds as his team defeated defending champion Denver Nuggets 106 – 99 en route to the first Western Conference semifinal series.

Naz Reid contributed 14 of his 16 points in the fourth quarter as the Timberwolves pulled away. With the score tied at 84 and 6:24 to play, the visiting team went on an 18-7 run, capped by an Edwards jumper.

Nikola Jokic quickly scored five points, but Edwards free throws kept the Timberwolves at bay in the final minute.

“Playing against the best player in the world is always fun,” Edwards said of the matchup against Jokic and the Nuggets in general. “Playing against the best team in the world is always fun.”

Jokic finished with 32 points (2-9 triples), nine assists and eight rebounds but also seven turnovers. “We have to do a better job of making them make hard shots, maybe an extra pass,” the Serbian big man said. This was only the third playoff loss for the Nuggets after 2022.

Rudy Gobert grabbed thirteen rebounds with his six points and three blocks for the Timberwolves.
