MS Dhoni invites criticism for batting at number 9, Harbhajan Singh says ‘he shouldn’t be playing like…’

MS Dhoni has faced just 49 deliveries in the entire IPL 2024 and scored 110 runs at a strike rate of 224.

What explains MS Dhoni being at number 9? The team is missing one of their star players in the middle order, and it’s just that MSD is making a cameo appearance when it comes to batting. On Sunday, Thala Dhoni came to bat a little late and was bowled for a duck by Harshal Patel of Punjab Kings.

Former India spinner Harbhajan Singh slammed Dhoni for batting so low in the line-up in the CSK vs PBKS match. The former CSK bowler further said that MSD should have come into bat in the 16th over themselves and batting so low did not solve the team’s case.

“MS Dhoni should not play if he wants to bat at number 9. It is better to include a fast bowler than himself in the playing XI. He is the decision maker and has let his team down by not getting started. Shardul Thakur preceded him. Thakur can never shoot as well as Dhoni and I don’t understand why Dhoni made this mistake. Nothing happens without his consent and I am not prepared to accept that this decision to demote him was made by someone else.

“CSK needed quick runs and Dhoni has done that in the previous matches. It was shocking that he was left behind in the important match against Punjab Kings. Even if CSK wins today, I will still call on Dhoni. Let people say everything. I will say what is right,” Harbhajan Singh told Star Sports.

MS Dhoni exceptional record in IPL 2024

In the 11 matches Dhoni has played this year, he has been at his fiery best despite being quite low in the rankings. After facing 49 deliveries, he has scored 110 runs at an average of 55 and a strike rate of 224. While he was dismissed for a duck against PBKS, he was dismissed for 14 in the previous match against Punjab.
