Nicolas Jackson scores brace as Chelsea beat West Ham 5-0 to put Man United ahead in the table

Chelsea leapt Manchester United into seventh place in the Premier League after the Blues beat West Ham United 5-0, with Nicolas Jackson scoring twice at Stamford Bridge on Sunday afternoon.

The win took Chelsea’s tally to 54 points, equal to Manchester United, who face Crystal Palace at Selhurst Park on Monday evening. The Blues are ahead thanks to a better goal difference of 11 compared to United.

In the 15th minute, Cole Palmer scored his 21st league goal of the season, curling Nicolas Jackson’s assist into the bottom left corner of the net to give Chelsea the lead against the Hammers.

Exactly on the half hour, Conor Gallagher doubled Chelsea’s lead. The England international took advantage of a rebound ball from Noni Madueke’s play in the penalty area and fired a powerful shot into the net.

Madueke made it 3-0 in the 36th minute. The Nigerian-born winger headed home a header assist from Thiago Silva and the hosts went into half-time with a comfortable lead.

Jackson scored twice in the second half – first in the 48th minute when the Senegalese international tapped in an unselfish pass from Madueke to make it 4-0.

He scored again in the 80th minute to seal the emphatic victory for Chelsea.

It was an unlucky day for striker Jarrod Bowen, who came so close to scoring for West Ham in the match. His efforts on target hit the goalpost twice in the first half, and the Hammers’ time in west London ended in shambles.
