Shooting at birthday party in Westbury sends six people to hospital, Long Island officers say – NBC New York

A party celebrating a teenager’s 18th birthday ended in gunfire and landed six people in the hospital on Long Island.

Police in Nassau County said the shooting started before 11 p.m. Friday at a home at Eastfield and Pepperidge roads in Westbury.

“The parents were there, it wasn’t like a house party,” said one young witness. “It was literally a birthday party!”

“All of a sudden you hear a bang and then just shots. Everyone starts running, running. I got hurt in the whole running incident,” another witness said after the commotion.

Officers found six people with multiple gunshot wounds, all of whom had to be transported to nearby hospitals. Everyone was expected to recover.

Some teens who spoke after the incident said they did not see the shooter and could not imagine why someone would bring a gun to a teen party.

“The boy who organizes the party feels bad. He didn’t want anyone to get hurt in this situation, this should never have happened,” the teenager said.

Nassau County police sent detectives from the Gang Investigation Team to scour the scene and interview witnesses.

Neighbors like Naved Ahmed felt shocked that gun violence somehow spilled into this quiet neighborhood.

“Safety is obviously the number one priority, especially when you pay so much property taxes where you live,” Ahmed said.
