JDS MLA sentenced to three days in jail for sexual harassment

Bangalore: The sleuths of the Special Investigation Team (SIT) under the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) who were probing the alleged sexual harassment case, on Sunday nabbed one of the accused Janata Dal Secular (JDS) MLA and former minister HD Revanna for 17 years.E Additional Chief Metropolitan Magistrate (ACMM), Justice Ravindra Kumar Kattimani at his residence in Koramangala, Bengaluru city. The judge remanded Revanna to SIT custody till 3 pm on May 8. Earlier, SIT sleuths had appealed for a week’s custody of Revanna.

Revanna was taken into custody by SIT sleuths from the residence of his father and former Prime Minister HD Devegowda, located in Padmanabhanagar in Bengaluru city, on Saturday evening.

Before he was produced in court on Sunday, SIT sleuths conducted a medical examination on Revanna at Bowing Hospital. Before the medical examination, Revanna told reporters that he had been falsely framed in an alleged sexual harassment case and later in a kidnapping case and an alleged ‘political conspiracy against me’.

Revanna claimed that a (false) case was filed against him on April 28 for alleged sexual harassment and when the officials concerned could not gather any evidence against him, another case of alleged ‘kidnapping’ was filed against him on May 2, which led to his arrest by ZIT sleuths.

Revanna, along with his son and Janata Dal Secular Lok Sabha member Prajwal Revanna, is accused of sexual harassment of women. Cases have been filed against them at Holenarsipura Town Police Station in Hassan after a victim filed a police complaint against father and his son. Holenarsipura is Revanna’s birthplace and he represents the Holenarsipur Assembly seat.

The kidnapping case of a woman against Revanna has been filed at Krishnaraja Nagar police station in Mysuru district and the police complaint has been filed by the victim’s son HD Raju, a resident of Hebbalu Koppalu in KR Nagar taluk of Mysuru district.

Minister of the Interior Dr. G Parameshwara told reporters in Bengaluru that Revanna has been arrested on a complaint under the law. Legal action will follow against Revanna.
