Chelsea 5-0 West Ham United (May 5, 2024) Game analysis

LONDON, May 5 (Reuters) – Chelsea boosted their chances of European football next season by beating West Ham 5-0 in the Premier League, with Cole Palmer, Conor Gallagher, Noni Madueke and Nicolas Jackson, with two, all in the scoresheets are available on Sunday.

Palmer, 21, grabbed a loose ball after Madueke’s cross in the 15th minute and fired into the far corner over West Ham goalkeeper Alphonse Areola. It was his 21st league goal in his first season for the club.

Captain Gallagher also took advantage of a loose ball in the area after a tackle on Madueke and smashed home his chance on the half-hour mark with West Ham’s defense in disarray.

Madueke went from provider to goalscorer and back again, either side of half-time. He poked home from close range after a corner in the 36th minute to put Jackson ahead for Chelsea’s fourth in the 48th.

Jackson scored his second 10 minutes from time after taking on a deep pass from Moises Caicedo and leaving just onside according to a VAR check.

The result moved Chelsea to seventh in the table, overtaking Manchester United, who play on Monday, and moving them within reach of Europa League qualification.
