Series A | Empoli 0-0 Frosinone: Frustrating stalemate

Empoli saw their goal disallowed offside, while Frosinone forced a few saves, but the 0-0 draw yielded little for either team.

This was a huge match as both teams were locked on 31 points along with Verona, just two clear of the drop zone. The hosts were missing Sebastian Walukiewicz, Alberto Cerri, Tyronne Ebuehi and Etrit Berisha. The Canarini were without Stefano Turati, Anthony Oyono, Mateus Lusuardi and Sergio Kalaj, plus Caleb Okoli who was struggling with a knee problem.

Elia Caprile tipped a scorching Luca Mazzitelli over the bar in the opening minutes, while Empoli had the ball in the net after 20 minutes when Emmanuel Gyasi fired in the rebound after Alberto Grassi’s parried shot, but he was in an offside position.

Walid Cheddira tested Caprile twice from the edge of the area, one with a low drive, a harder save on his powerful curler.

Razvan Marin’s deflection shot just wide of the near post, while Bartosz Bereszynski made a decisive block on Cheddira’s backheel drive from six yards, set up by Marco Brescianini.

Ciccio Caputo shot from close range onto the frame of the goal in the closing minutes, but his blushes were spared by the offside flag.
