The Cranston Police Department is mourning the loss of beloved K-9 officer Zeus

Cranston police announced the death of a beloved member of the force on Saturday.

K-9 Zeus died Saturday afternoon after a sudden illness.

In a Facebook post, Cranston police said Zeus was found alongside handler Sgt. Gregg Bruno with great distinction, dedication and honor.

β€œHe left a lasting impact on many over the years and was responsible for the seizure of narcotics, firearms and American money,” the statement said.

A funeral procession will take place on Monday with a stop in front of Cranston Police Station. The department said the public is welcome to stand along the route to pay their respects.

Zeus was nine years old.
