State Police Investigating Fatal One-Vehicle Crash Near Laurel – Delaware State Police

Delaware State Police are investigating a fatal single-vehicle crash that occurred just west of Laurel last night.

On May 4, 2024, at approximately 6:48 p.m., a Chevrolet Trailblazer was traveling west on Sharptown Road, west of Mt. Pleasant Road, at an apparent high rate of speed. For unknown reasons, the car veered off the north side of the road. It then hit a drainage ditch, causing it to topple over and crash into a utility pole.

The passenger, whose identity is unknown at this time, was transported to a local hospital where he remains in critical condition. The driver, a 27-year-old man from Bloxom, Virginia, was pronounced dead at the scene. His name is being withheld until his family is notified.

The roadway was closed for approximately four hours while detectives investigated the scene and cleared the roadway.
