New Delhi, India): Following the suspension by the National Anti-Doping Agency (NADA) on Sunday, wrestler Bajrang Punia opened up on the issue and said that he never refused to give his samples to the NADA officials for the doping test.

“I would like to clarify the news that I am being asked to take a doping test!!! I have never refused to give my sample to NADA officials. I requested them to first answer me when asked what action they were taking with the expired kit they had brought to take my sample and then take my drug test. My lawyer Vidush Singhania will reply to this letter on time,” Bajrang posted from his X handle.

Earlier, on Sunday, NADA suspended the wrestler indefinitely, a move that could potentially jeopardize his bid to compete in the Paris Olympics later this year.

According to sources, Punia failed to provide his urine sample for the selection trials in Sonepat on March 10, prompting the NADA to issue the order suspending him from participating in future events.

Punia, who had released a video a few months earlier claiming that the dope collection kits had expired, ignored the dope control officer’s directive and claimed that NADA officials had not yet addressed his concerns.

According to the doping collector’s report, he left even though he was told his refusal would result in a warning for violating anti-doping rules.

Punia was also asked to submit written justification for his refusal to submit supporting documentation and a urine sample by May 7.
