One Knoxville SC wins the Barrel Brawl 2-0 and remains undefeated against rival Lexington SC.

From the start, One Knox applied high pressure and intensity, creating opportunities. In the 11th minute, One Knox forward Frank Ross crossed the ball to Angelo Kelly and ran through to receive another pass that was cleared for a corner kick.

Both teams showed a lot of movement on the field. Total possession went the way of One Knox with 54% and Lexington with 46%. One Knox had eight shots and Lexington had ten, but One Knox were able to capitalize in the final third and score their goals in the second half.

Lexington gave up eleven fouls that gave way to more opportunities for One Knox. In the 34th minute, One Knox forward Rodolfo Castro Jr. a free kick and shot the ball into the air on the left, sending it just outside the goal.

In the first half, One Knox had only two shots and Lexington one, finishing 0-0 after 45 minutes. The second half brought a greater sense of urgency between both teams, with One Knox having a total of six shots, while Lexington had nine.

One Knox defenseman, Jalen Crisler, earned the Man of the Match award from Alliance Brewing. He had the most tackles, won all four he had and secured the team’s first goal.

He kept One Knox in the game by winning his battles on the defensive end, but also by playing a role on the offensive end when needed.

In the 50th minute, One Knox’s Stuart Ritchie passed the ball to Callum Johnson, who crossed the ball into the penalty area. Crisler, who was ready, headed the ball from the center of the penalty area into the center of the goal to give One Knox a 1-0 lead.

Tensions were high as Lexington attempted to tie the game. In the 56th minute, Lexington’s Tate Robertson crossed the ball in the air from a corner kick, and it was caught and saved by One Knox goalkeeper Johan Garibay.

This was Garibay’s third official start and first start in a USL match. He talked about what worked well to secure the win. “All ten boys in front of me… especially that back line. I think we were calm and collected in times when we could have kicked the ball away,” he said.

In the 58th minute we saw players quickly rally after a physical altercation on the One Knox defensive end near the goal. The referees came together in a serious discussion.

Moments later, a red card was given to Lexington player Ebenexer Ackon for violent conduct. He was ejected from the game, leaving the team down one player.

Lexington pressed high to create chances, but One Knox continued to deny goals. In the 73rd minute, Lexington’s Alasanne Diouf hit the ball and Garibay punched it out where the ball was eventually cleared by Ritchie.

The intensity continued and in the 75th minute One Knox player, Kingsford Adeji, sent a through ball to Ritchie. As the ball rolled and neared the end line, Ritchie reached out, made the save and crossed the ball home. Ross ran on and hit the ball high into the center of the goal from the center of the penalty area.

After this, Lexington failed to capitalize on every chance they had, allowing One Knox to take the win with a final score of 2-0.

One Knox coach, Mark McKeever, spoke about the win against Lexington. “I feel like this has been our most complete 90 minutes… The consistency of our work goes into our identity, and so the next message now is to keep going and keep it consistent every time,” he said.

This win extends an undefeated streak for One Knox over Lexington SC. Since the start of the 2022 Barrel Brawl, One Knox has led the series 4-1-0 and has never lost a match against them.

This match will only count towards the USL Jägermeister Cup and will not affect their regular season standings. One Knox has increased its spot in the rankings to number three and Lexington has fallen to number two in Group 2 of the USL Jägermeister Cup.

The next home match is Saturday, June 22 against Greenville Triumph SC at 7:00 PM at the Regal Soccer Stadium.
